I think that this is one of those episodes that is just amazing. The cast and crew of Supernatural never cease to shock and amaze me, but this episode will hold a special place in my heart.
The main thing to make it so fantastic, was the performance put in by Jensen Ackles. He blew me away. In the past, fans have documented how much he can convey with so little, and here, there was no exception. You could really see his fear, open yet guarded, in his eyes. It hurts to watch and see that pain, but it so astonishing and beautiful that its impossible to look away. And you honestly don't want to. Jensen makes you want to lap up that pain, and smother him in hugs. Try and make him feel better again. But nobody can, and that's evident in everything that Dean does in this episode.
The storyline held itself perfectly, with the boys and 'Uncle' Bobby heading out to find Lillith - but not after Dean gets himself into a fight with Ruby, and comes out with her knife, despite her beating his ass. They track Lillith to be a little girl terrorizing a family, and sneak in. Just before Sam goes in for the kill, they find that the little girl is clean... Lillith is elsewhere. Lillith takes over Ruby's body, and the games begin. When they figure this out, it is far too late, and the hell hounds come a'running. Dean doesn't make it, and his body is mangled as Sam watches on, unable to stop it, only hiding his face. Closing in on Dean's body, as Sam holds him, lifeless, and tears fall from his eyes, we see vision of Dean in hell, screaming for Sam. Tortured.
Both of the boys took my breath away in this. Its just wow. I can't say enough. All the speeches, and even the physical stuff was so fitting and well done, this episode earns my applause. :)
