At the Academy Awards last year, Chris Rock hit the nail square on the head when he asked why is it that all Black movies are based around certain locations --"Barbershop, Car Wash, Beauty Shop, so what's next... Laundrymat?"
I guess the "next film" is this poorly conceived, unrealistic movie that showcases pathetic acting and perpetuates crass racial stereotypes. This is nothing new in American cinema, as many films depict minorities in less than flattering fashion. However, when you take into consideration that the story line was written by blacks such as Queen Latifah, it makes the film all the more shameful because it shows how we as African-Americans accept these obtuse stereotypes. How this film was nominated for the BET movie award for "best writing" is far beyond me.
The film offers minimal comedic entertainment and when one of the white women featured in the film (I can't remember her character's name) naively--and unrealistically--poses the question "What is a cookout?," the film instantly loses all of its credibility.
You may note that a star rating icon does not appear over this review; the omission is intentional. This film is so bad that it does not merit any stars, not even one!
Pure garbage!!
