Walt Disney didn't do Snow White justice in his animation. This one must be the most filthy and downright hilarious version of the famous children's story--though this adaptation is certainly NOT for kids. It is populated with favourite European fairytale characters, 'improved' with Woody Allen-esque sexual hangups, this story uses the bases of many popular stories, cleverly interwoven to produce a coherent whole.
This must be one of the funniest comedies of the '80s, both gross-out and a more cerebral form of humour, which is unusual in a single film. However, many of the subtler touches are very much cultural, and yet more only come out after several viewings. I myself have seen it three times, yet am still finding more comic touches at each viewing.
some of the English to French subtitling is rather odd. For example, "F**k you bloody French" (in English) comes out as "Ooh, you naughty French". (Please don't censor me: that is really what is in the film).
Overall, this is a film I would recommend to anyone, especially if you enjoyed Something About Mary and similar films, though the humour is VERY French.
